8 week After School
Tuesdays 4- 5.30pm
or Thursdays 4.30- 6pm
Age 8+

These are skills-based courses giving young-people the opportunity to learn all the basics of working with clay: slab building, coiling, wheel-throwing and glazing. The course includes all materials and firing. All pots are fired to stoneware temperature with food-safe glazes.

Young people will be split into two groups P6 & P7, S1- S3 and projects will be tailored to each age group, we have  a ratio of 1 tutor to 6 participants.

Course Structure

Weeks 1 & 2: A slab-building project
Week 3: Glazing and wheel throwing

Weeks 4 & 5: A coil-building project

Week 6: Sgraffito tiles and wheel throwing
Week 7: Carving and relief decoration

Week 8: Glazing


Course Date and Times
Tuesdays 4- 5.30pm, 8 weeks starting January 14th

Cost
Course fees for young people are based on household income, and taken in three monthly installments, so that it's hopefully affordable for all children to participate.

Low household income, under £32,500: three installments of £50
Basic household income £32,500- £50,500: three installments of £55
Intermediate household income £50,500- £68,500: three installments of £60
Higher household income, over £68,500: three installments of £65

Who will be teaching your course?

Sara Jane is a long-term member of Open Artspace, a keen potter and textile artist. Sara Jane is a qualified teacher with over 20 years of experience working with children and young people. Before qualifying as a teacher Sara Jane studied Art and Design, then worked as a stop-motion animation puppet maker for Disney, MTV and Warner Brothers. 

 

Giada is our fabulous studio technician, responsible for firing our members work and managing the studio. She has worked in school arts education for eight years, she has a degree in cultural heritage and a masters in theatre design, as well as formal training in arts education. Giada is a long-term member of Open Artspace, a keen potter and puppet maker.
